alpha ventus constructed completely
With the erection of the sixth REpower turbine the construction of the first German offshore wind farm alpha ventus has been finished on 16 November. This means that the goal of the companies involved to complete the wind farm this year has been achieved.
Construction time for all twelve turbines of the site took only seven months. In the process, up to 25 different ships were used at the same time, among them three jack-up platforms as well as the biggest crane ship of the world, Thialf, which anchored the jacket foundations of the six REpower turbines in the North Sea. During the next weeks commissioning of the turbines will gradually take place.
Each of the six turbines constructed at alpha ventus is slated to supply the electricity grid with around 18 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of power per year. All in all, the wind farm will be able to supply about 50,000 homes with electricity annually.
