Senvion supplies its first off-grid project in Australia's outback
Senvion Australia has delivered the 2-turbine wind energy component of Energy Developments Coober Pedy Hybrid Renewables Project. Each of the two 2MW wind turbines has a tip height of over 125 meters, and can produce enough electricity to power around a thousand homes. Senvion's robust and reliable technology is perfectly suited to remote applications, including the harsh conditions of South Australia's outback. In addition to the turbines, the hybrid micro-grid also uses a unique combination of solar and battery storage to reduce the town's reliance on diesel fuel.
Civil works commenced in October 2016 and were completed prior to Christmas. Both turbines were installed in January 2017. Wind, thunderstorms and high temperatures have proved challenging for the onsite installation. Most of the installation work happened at night to avoid hot daytime temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius. The wind turbines commenced operation in June 2017.
