With a total of 64 turbines, the Mt Mercer Wind Farm produces enough electricity to power the entire city of Ballarat, 120 kilometers northwest of Melbourne. The contract was awarded in August 2012 making it Senvion’s sixth wind farm project in Australia.

Senvion’s MM92 Wind Energy Converters (WECs) are mounted on steel towers, each with a hub height of 80 metres above ground level. Each rotor diameter is 92 metres with a power output of 2.05 MW.

Completed in 2014, the wind farm is located within the Golden Plains Shire 30 kilometers south of Ballarat. The site has an area of approximately 2,600 hectares over seven private land holdings, one of which was contracted to quarry the rock used for road and hardstand construction. The site mainly consists of farmland which continues to be used for cropping and grazing cattle, sheep and pigs.

Senvion was responsible for supplying the turbines as well as logistics, cranage, installation, commissioning and testing of the WECs and towers. Approximately eight Senvion service technicians, mostly recruited from the local community, now monitor and service the turbines regularly.
