Edinburgh. Suzlon Group’s UK subsidiary, REpower UK, has signed three new contracts, including the first order of the MM100 turbine variant for the UK. The company will be delivering the MM100 turbines to a new wind farm at the Oakdale Wind Energy Park in South Wales. Wind turbines will also be supplied to the Burton Pidsea wind farm near East Riding, Yorkshire and the Hameldon Hill Extension in Lancashire.
The Oakdale Wind Energy Park, developed by Partnerships for Renewables, will consist of two MM100 turbines with a rated output of 2 MW each. The turbines will produce enough power to supply over 2.000 homes. Construction work at Oakdale will commence in September 2013 and will be completed by early 2014.
Building on REpower’s proven technology the MM100 is the latest model in the MM series, an extension of the MM92. With its large rotor diameter of 100 meters, this model provides very high levels for energy generation for IEC class III sites.
The Burton Pidsea wind farm, developed by EnergieKontor UK, will consist of three 3.4M104 turbines with a total rated output of 10.2 MW, enough to power approximately 5.400 homes. Construction at Burton Pidsea will start in autumn 2013 and is scheduled for completion in early 2014.
Finally, the Hameldon Hill Extension developed by RWE npower renewables will add three MM82 turbines to the existing wind farm situated south west of the town of Burnley. The new turbines, with a generating output of 2.05 MW each, will generate enough electricity for an additional 4,000 homes each year approximately. Once the new extension has been completed, the wind farm will have a total generating output of 12 MW, enough to power approximately 6,800 homes. Construction begins early 2013 and will be completed by early 2014.
Rick Eggleston, Managing Director, REpower UK commented: “I am delighted to announce the closure of three new contracts, which builds on what has already been a very positive start to 2013 for REpower UK, and we are particularly pleased to be supplying our first MM100 in the UK. This latest model ensures the REpower product portfolio offers turbine solutions for all onshore wind conditions and locations in the UK.”
